Synopsis

Fernando Calvet was a brilliant Catalan scientist who became the first Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela at the age of 23. In 1939, he co-founded the pharmaceutical company Zeltia and became the head of its research team. He embarked on this business venture alongside his friend Ramón Obella, a doctor and entrepreneur from Compostela with a great imagination and a savvy business mind, who had founded the Children of the Sun naturist group with him years earlier. They were also joined by the brothers José and Antonio Fernández López, the main investors behind the project. Their objective was to use flora and organic waste from the local area to produce pharmaceuticals for human, veterinary and agricultural consumption.

In times of war, their laboratories in O Porriño became the epicentre of modern science, laying the foundations of a business group that remains a benchmark to this day.
